Wow, what a game! I was hoping the Saints would win and now I'm happy. I thought that it would either be a blowout with the Colts winning, but if the Saints could keep it close, they could have a chance to win.
I think the Saints won with gutsy coaching decisions, like the onside kick, defensive game plan, and offensive aggressiveness. I didn't like the Colts and I liked them less when they gave up on their perfect season, and I think that Coach Caldwell was too conservative and afraid to attack and win the game. He was playing not to lose the Super Bowl, instead of playing to beat the Saints.
On the flip side, the Saints knew they had to go all out, take risks, gamble in order to have a fighting chance to win. It worked out for them and Coach Payton. I'm not sure if Caldwell can bring the Colts back to the SuperBowl unless he gets more aggressive, but he's a rookie head coach so he might be willing to adapt, otherwise Payton Manning will force him out for someone new. This could be similar to what happened to the Raiders and Coach Callahan's two seasons.
I think the Saints will stay competitive for the next few years. Reggie Bush will probably take a pay cut because he's not a franchise player, but he sells jerseys so maybe it balances out. I didn't realize New Orleans was such a small market and that moving to a new city was such a better option, but it looks like they will stay there for a long time, with the govt and NFL subsidies, and the Super Bowl location in the next few years. Congratulations to the Saints! What a great game and a great win for the city! I'm sure Archie Manning is happy!
